I've been unjustly deported from Israel for highlighting the plight of the Temple Mount under Nazi-Muslim occupation and know from personal experience what hypocrites Netanyahu and other Israeli leaders are who blather before the world how Israel guarantees "freedom of access" to religious sites. I would like to begin with a quote from the Book of Haggai “Then came the word of the Lord by Haggai the prophet, saying: Is this the time for you to dwell in paneled houses, while this house sits in ruins?” As Israel capitulates to America and enforces a building freeze in Judea and Samaria, the words from Haggai ring loudly in our ears! Since the liberation of the Temple Mount in 1967 there has been an ironclad freeze on anything Jewish on the Temple Mount. No Jewish prayer or study and certainly no building. It is no wonder that the freeze has now spilled over to the rest of Israel. I do not blame the Arabs; I blame the Jewish Nation for not stepping forward and reclaiming the Temple Mount. How can we talk about building the Land of Israel when we have allowed its center to remain in ruins?

I have been privileged to visit our Temple Mount numerous times. Each time that I go to the Mount of God, I think of the verse from Psalms 24, "Who will go up to the Mount of the Lord and who will stand His holy place?One with clean hands and pure heart. " Before I can enter the Holy Mount, I am given a stern warning from the police, "If we catch you, swaying, praying, singing, dancing, bowing or closing your eyes, you will be arrested for incitement to violence. "  Aside from the humiliation of being barred from praying on our holiest site, we also have to go through a humiliating ritual of having to stand in a corner while all secular and non-Jewish tourists get to go up first.   

Once On the Mount I have to watch as the foreigners (Arabs), desecrate it. Did you know that Arab children play soccer and families gather for picnics,on the Holy Mount? So aside from the grave insult of being prevented from praying, I am forced to watch these obscenities take place.

From the very place that the Temple priests brought the holy sacrifices, Arabs now gather for picnics. From the very place that the Levites sang the sweet praises of the Lord, the Muslim leaders call for the death of our people and the destruction of our State. The place of Oleh Regel (pilgrimage) has become the place for Kadur Regel (soccer) by Arab children.

Are these the type of people that should be allowed upon the Mount of the Lord? Are these the type of people who should be standing in His Holy Place?  I say enough! The time has come to end this humiliation.

It is time to demand that Jews be allowed to ascend and pray unrestricted on the Temple Mount! It is time to demand that the police put an end to the soccer games and the picnics, make the Arabs respect our holiest site! It is time to demand that the police arrest and put on trial the Muslim leaders who use the Mount to call for our destruction! Does the verse say "And the word of the Lord from Jerusalem " or "the word of Mohammad ". Perhaps I am becoming confused?

However the silence is deafening! Where are the rabbis, communal leaders and Knesset Members? Why are they not speaking and crying out? How can we remain silent as the Arabs with the consent of the Israeli government, destroy the very remains of the Temple itself? How do we justify protesting for the Sabbath, while ignoring the Mount. Does not Maimonides teach “As it is written: ‘My Sabbath you shall guard and my Temple you shall fear’, just as guarding the Sabbath is eternal, fearing the Temple is eternal as well”.  

As liaison of  HaTenu'ah LeChinun HaMikdash (Organization for Temple Renewal)  to North American Jewish communities, I am asking for your help. We here in Israel, who carry on the daily struggle for Jewish rights on the Temple Mount are in desperate need of your assistance. Aside from all the daily humiliation and nullification of our religious rights on the Temple Mount, we have also lost the right to protest this terrible situation. If we should protest loudly the Israeli police would start a campaign of persecution against us as they have done to others in the past. The police called in the head of our organization Rabbi Yosef Elboim for questioning for simply organizing trips to the Mount. The visits were organized within the framework of our "visitation hours ". Currently Jews have visitation hours Sunday- Thursday 7:30am-10:00pm and from 12:30pm-1:30pm. A bride was arrested  a few weeks ago along with her father on her wedding day for the crime of “moving her lips in silence”. 

We must bring the Temple Mount back into our national heart and mind and begin to restore her to her former glory. Yes this will be a long difficult path, but so was our return to Zion after 2,000 years of exile. Our parents, grandparents and great grandparents had their mission and we have ours. When Ehud Barak went to Camp David, Arafat (yemach shemo v'zichro) asked him a simple question: "You neither have a Jewish structure nor Jewish presence on the Mount, so why should you maintain control? ". The only answer Barak could give was that: "Religious Jews go up every day from HaTeun’ua LeChinun HaMikdash! ". At that time our organization was only about a dozen members; a dozen Jews saved the Temple Mount from total abandonment!  Negotiations may very well start up again and who knows if Barak's answer will work a second time. We need to entire Jewish People behind us!

What can Jews outside of Israel do?

1.      Protest outside of Israeli Embassies and Consulates. This can be done by organizing family and friends. Speak to your Rabbi and lay leaders and urge them to organize a peaceful rally on behalf of Jewish Prayer on the Temple Mount.

 The entire Jewish People across the word must work to insure Jewish rights and a Jewish future on the Temple Mount. We did not return to the Mount after 2,000 years so that we could lose it in 40!  When we as a nation act, then we will have regained our national pride and sanity. Israeli police forced to respect Jews on Temple Mount?

(IsraelNN.com) Temple Mount activist Yehuda Glick won a seven-month battle on Sunday and prayed at the holy site with his 19-year-old daughter, just hours before she married in a ceremony in Bnei Brak. He told Israel National News they prayed at the site and were escorted by two policemen and another guard.

“According to the law, you can pray on the Temple Mount, but cannot ‘demonstrate’ by moving the body in a fashion that indicates praying or by holding a prayer book,” he explained. “I can stand and move my lips. They are not going to read my lips to know what I am saying.”

Nevertheless, one of the policemen filmed him and his daughter for 20 minutes. Glick revealed that he prayed for the safe release of kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit and American prisoner-for-life Jonathan Pollard. “I also praised the A-lmighty and prayed that all Jews visit the Temple Mount," he added...

The High Court previously accepted Glick’s petition charging police with discrimination, and the justices ordered that he be allowed to visit the Temple Mount. Police refused to honor the order, however, and he filed two more petitions with the court. Finally, two weeks ago, the court set December 26 as a final date for police cooperation.

Bride, Father Arrested for Crime of Moving Lips on Temple Mount

(IsraelNN.com) A Jewish bride and her father were arrested on the Temple Mount the day before her wedding, after an Arab policeman claimed he saw the father muttering prayers and the bride nodding her head.

The father and daughter were being taken around the site on Wednesday morning by her brother Eli, a volunteer who conducts regular tours at the Temple Mount, when suddenly they were accosted by the Jerusalem policeman.

“We were in the northern part, and I was showing them the archaeological evidence when suddenly a police officer came over to us, Mahmoud Hativ was his name, and h claimed that my father had muttered prayers. “We tried to argue with him and said it wasn’t true, but he said, ‘You can’t fool me,’ and insisted that my father had prayed,” Eli told Israel National News.

“My sister was just standing there silently, not moving at all. She didn’t say a word. It was her first time at the Mount. Other cops came over, Mahmoud said that she had also been involved, and they decided to arrest them both,” he continued. “He let me go right away, because he couldn’t make any claim against me.” His sister and father were taken to the Kishla police station near the Jaffa Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem.

‘Lack of Will to Exercise Israeli Sovereignty’

“The fact that a father comes to the holiest place of the Jewish people and can be arrested simply for allegedly moving his lips is an outrage,” Eli said.

“The Supreme Court has repeatedly ruled that the holy sites of all religions have to be protected and respected – that explicitly includes the rights of Jews on the Temple Mount. Jerusalem police continue to ignore that ruling.”

Asked if he believes U.S. pressure on Israel to make concessions to the Palestinian Authority had anything to do with the incident, Eli said, ‘No. It is a result of the lack of will of the Jerusalem police to exercise Israeli sovereignty over the Jewish holy places in Jerusalem, not U.S. pressure on Israel. It is unheard of to arrest someone just for praying in their own religion. In the U.S. that wouldn’t fly. There is no public place in the U.S. where a Jew could not pray. It is unfortunate, and sad.”

The family, which immigrated to Israel from New York in 1996, lives in Beit Shemesh.

‘Police Misled Them to Sign Confession’

The two were held for several hours. At approximately 11:30 a.m., the two were ordered to sign a declaration which they were told said they would promise not to return to the Temple Mount for 15 days.

However, the father, who spoke with Israel National News from the courtyard of the police station while waiting to be questioned by the police commander, said that further examination of the paper showed they had been misinformed. The declaration actually said that they were confessing to have violated a law about disturbing the public order.

It was also made equally clear that if they did not sign the paper, they might not be freed for hours – perhaps not even in time for the young woman to make it to her own wedding.

Officers at Jaffa Gate Station Mocked the Bride

“The police officers talked very improperly to my daughter. She was very upset – in tears – and they ridiculed her. ‘What’s the matter, are you baby?’ they mocked her.” Her father immediately fired back, “That’s how you talk to someone?”

The father said that the officer in charge threatened to keep them longer in response. “Be careful,” the cop warned. “If you talk to me that way, I can keep you here for a few more hours.”

IF the Israeli authorities truly suspected me of being involved in such a dangerous activity, they would have NEVER RELEASED ME with only my passport in their hands. As for those others allegedly involved in some plot, that were "still at large" - THEY'RE STILL AT LARGE to this day, twelve years later, because they don't exist! And, just like twelve years ago I protested my innocence, I continue to this day doing the same, consistent, honest and true, as God knows, and as they very well know.

They had a computer disk with Beyond Babylon on it back then, and now Beyond Babylon is professionally published, and it says now, as then, that it is the GOVERNMENT of Israel's responsibility to remove the mosques and prepare for the Temple. Gershon Salomon, chairman of the Temple Mount Faithful, has been stating that fact publicly since he helped to liberate the Temple Mount in 1967 during the Six Day War. What we say is LEGAL and BIBLICAL, although some would trample our rights to express ourselves and practice our religion, in a vain attempt to appease the Nazi-Muslim beasts. Only the Koran is permitted within. The Tanach (Jewish Scripture, known to much of the world as the "Old Testament") and Christian Scriptures (the New Testament) are forbidden. Yet Israel claims to respect the religious rights of all people.

Hanukkah on the Temple Mount

Years ago, shortly after my baptism in 1979, I felt led to write a book. I relate some information about it in the 'Author's Note' of Beyond Babylon and share more in Beyond Babylon: Hard Labor of Love.

I'm honored to say that the initial 'Introduction' to my book was written upon the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, Israel. To top that off, it was during the Jewish celebration of Hanukkah - the Festival of Lights - the Feast of the Dedication! A glorious time commemorating the God-given victory of the few over the many, light over darkness, truth over error and the rededication of the purified Temple of God, since it had been polluted by foreigners from without and betrayed by Hellenists (liberal Jews) from within.

My hope and prayer is for Israel and Judah, British-Israelites and Jews, to become 'One Nation Under God,' a truly 'United Kingdom,' filled with the Holy Spirit of God, a Kingdom of Priests, becoming a LIGHT TO ALL NATIONS - the Temple of God.

Beyond Babylon is dedicated to increase light in this dark world, to rekindle the sacred embers of the Faith once delivered to Jerusalem, calling folks away from Rome, encouraging all to forsake Babylon, to move beyond babylon, and return to Zion where we belong.

The Temple Mount Faithful Feast of Tabernacles Celebration - 5769/2008

In the midst of a critical time of redemption in Israel -- and during a very complicated time of trouble all over the world, the Temple Mount and Land of Israel Faithful Movement held one of its most exciting events in its campaign to build the Third Temple in our lifetime. Now, more than any other time in the past, our materialistic generation needs the G-d of Israel to dwell in the midst of our daily lives. This generation needs the light of G-d to shine into the darkness that is now spreading to the four corners of the earth. As was prophesied through the prophets of Israel, G-d chose this time to bring about His plans with Israel in order to begin the endtime redemption of the entire world.

In a time when so many people in the world are searching and seeking after materialistic achievements and serving the "Golden Calf", the Faithful Movement has been involved in intensive endtime activities. We have been seeking the spirit, the morals, the values and the word of the G-d of Israel. We have been demonstrating for the rebuilding of His Holy House in Jerusalem and for the coming of Mashiach Ben David in our lifetime.

This most recent event took place on Thursday, 17 Tishrei 5769/October 16, 2008, during the Feast of Succoth -- the Feast of Tabernacles.

The Succoth Festival is one of the most exciting holidays in the life of Israel. It is one of the three festivals during which G-d commanded Israel to make a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, to His Holy Temple. He called Israel to come that they would know His love for His people, and that they would show their love to Him. In this festival G-d calls His people to be filled with joy in the land that He gave them in an eternal covenant. As we marched to the Temple Mount on this day, we felt the Spirit of G-d covering us with great love. We felt like we were in heaven when we walked on the Holy Ground, the most holy place in all the world. This is the same place where Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, King David, King Solomon and all the prophets of Israel, along with many millions of Israelites, walked to show their love to their Father G-d. This is also the festival during which King Solomon completed the building of the First Temple. He dedicated and anointed it in an exciting ceremony, during which the Ark of the Covenant was brought up from the Tent of David and located in the Holy of Holies, on the Holy Rock of Abraham and Isaac (1 Kings 7:51; 8:12).

On the Temple Mount we could feel that time is short. We knew that the day of the rebuilding of the Temple is soon to come. Gershon Salomon called on the people of Israel to prepare themselves for this great day. He called upon them to stop praying and worshiping in the front of the Western Wall. He said to the people of Israel that G-d can no more accept the prayers outside of His Holy Hill.

He called the leadership of Israel to remove the pagan Muslim enemy and his shrines from the Holy Mountain of G-d, and to do it without delay. This is the call of G-d at this time, and we must answer His call without delay.

From the Temple Mount the Faithful, together with many Israelis and friends from outside of Israel, marched to the ancient City of David. We marched to the historic Pool of Siloam that was re-discovered a year ago. This pool and the accompanying tunnel were dug by King Hezekiah 2,800 years ago. This march renewed an exciting event that was celebrated by our forefathers during the Feast of Succoth, in the time of the First and Second Temple. At that time, thousands of pilgrims marched from the Temple to the Pool of Siloam to draw the Holy Water from the pool, while offering prayers to the G-d of Israel. They then marched back to the Temple to pour out the water on the altar, and to pray for a blessed year with much rain for the crops. This exciting event is described in the historical sources as the most joyful and most exciting event in the lives of the people of Israel:

"All the streets of Jerusalem were lit up with many lights. The High Priest and all the other priests, dressed in their beautiful garments, walked in front of the pilgrims, together with the King of Israel. The priests were followed by the Levities playing on the musical instruments, playing and singing songs. Jerusalem was emptied of people as they joined the marchers and danced all the way from the Temple to the pool."

The Temple Mount and Land of Israel Faithful Movement renewed this exciting event. The City of David, which again is being settled by Israelis, experienced this joyful and exciting event after being destroyed almost two thousand years ago. The surrounding mountains were once again witnesses to great godly events carried out by the children of Israel. They watched as the G-d of Israel regathered them back to the Holy Land and to Jerusalem, to rebuild His House and His Holy Kingdom.

The traditional ceremony at the Pool of Siloam started when a priest with the Faithful Movement drew the water using vessels that were especially made for use in the soon coming Third Temple. This was then followed by prayers, songs of the psalms and thanks to the G-d of Israel Who gave us the privilege of living in such an exciting generation.

After this joyful ceremony the Faithful marched again to the Temple Mount, carrying the water that was drawn from the pool, just as our forefathers had done. The water was poured on a large group of heavy stones which had been thrown down by the Romans when they destroyed the Temple in 70 CE. This is only a temporary measure; we will do everything we can to make sure that on the next Feast of Tabernacles the water will be poured on the altar in the rebuilt Temple, exactly as our forefathers did.

The Revival of the Holy Assembly of "Hakhel"

One of the most holy events held in the Temple was the "Holy Assembly of Hakhel". This assembly was held every seven years on the Feast of Tabernacles, after the "Smitah" year was finished ("Smitah" is the sabbatical year of the ground, when fields are left fallow every seventh year). It was a very exciting and holy event. Hundreds of thousands pilgrims, along with all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, gathered on the Temple Mount and inside the Temple. They would listen to the High Priest as he read the Commandments of G-d from the book of Deuteronomy, in the Holy Torah.

The event of "Hakhel" was one of the most exciting events during the times the Temple stood. Every one could feel the presence of the G-d of Israel so strongly, just as if G-d Himself was speaking to His beloved people Israel. The desire today of the people of Israel for the rebuilding of the House of G-d is also an expression of desire to once again experience this most exciting godly event.

From its very beginning, the Temple Mount and Land of Israel Faithful Movement decided to renew the events that are connected with the worship in the Temple so that we shall be ready to fulfill all of them when the Temple is rebuilt. The event of "Hakhel" was an important step towards this fulfillment. Because we could not do it this year on the Temple Mount, we held the event in front of the walls of the Temple Mount and the stones of the Temple itself. Our faces were directed to the Holy of Holies as we read the Commandments of Deuteronomy with great excitement. Two thousand years after the destruction of the Temple, the G-d of Israel could hear His People Israel reading His Word, with prayers that came from the bottom of their hearts. These were prayers for the rebuilding of the Temple in our lifetime, and for holding this exciting godly event next year in the right place, in the rebuilt Temple. We would like to present some of the Commandments that were heard at the Holy Hill of G-d on this special event of the Faithful Movement. Hopefully, this will express the godly atmosphere that covered us with love and blessed our hearts:

"You stand this day all of you before the LORD your GOD; your captains of your tribes, your elders, and your officers, with all the men of Yisra'el, your little ones, your wives, and thy stranger that is in thy camp, from the hewer of thy wood to the drawer of thy water; that thou shouldst enter into the covenant of the LORD thy GOD, and into his oath, which the LORD thy GOD makes with thee this day: that he may establish thee today for a people to himself, and that he may be to thee a GOD, as he has said to thee, and as he has sworn to thy fathers, to Avraham, to Yizhaq, and to Ya'aqov. Neither with you only do I make this covenant and this oath; but with him that stands here with us this day before the LORD our GOD, and also with him that is not here with us this day" (Deuteronomy 29:9-14)

"Hear, O Yisra'el: The LORD our GOD; the LORD is one. And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thy heart: and thou shalt teach them diligently to thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thy house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thy arm, and they shall be as frontlets between thy eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the doorposts of thy house, and on thy gates." (Deuteronomy 6:4-9)

"For if you shall diligently keep all these commandments which I command you, to do them, to love the LORD your GOD, to walk in all his ways, and to hold fast to him; then will the LORD drive out all these nations from before you, and you shall possess greater nations and mightier than yourselves. Every place whereon the sole of your foot shall tread shall be yours: from the wilderness to the Levanon, from the river, the river Perat, to the uttermost sea shall be your border. There shall no man be able to stand against you: for the LORD your GOD shall lay the fear of you and the dread of you upon all the land that you shall tread upon, as he has spoken to you" (Deuteronomy 11:22-25)

"For thou art a holy people to the LORD thy GOD: the LORD thy GOD has chosen thee to be a special people to himself, above all peoples that are upon the face of the earth. The LORD did not set his love upon you, or choose you, because you were more in number than any people; for you were the fewest of all peoples: but because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn to your fathers, has the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Par'o king of Mizrayim. Know therefore that the LORD thy GOD, he is GOD, the faithful GOD, who keeps covenant and troth with those who love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations; and repays them that hate him to their face, to destroy them: he will not be slack to him that hates him, he will repay him to his face. Thou shalt therefore keep the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which I command thee this day, to do them" (Deuteronomy 7:6-11)

This Word of G-d has a special significance at this time for all the nations in the world that still do not recognize and accept the godly event of the rebirth of Israel in the Land of Israel. These nations do not accept that G-d gave Israel this land by an eternal covenant for an eternal purpose: to be a holy nation, a kingdom of priests and a light to the nations (Exodus 19:5-6). This is the answer to all of those who want to divide the land of Israel and Jerusalem, and to establish a foreign anti-godly so-called "Palestinian State" of terror that will destroy the kingdom of Israel. This is also a lesson to the people of Israel to not trust any nation, power or human being; instead they must trust only in G-d, exactly as He called them to do. He promised to stand and protect them and to give them eternal life.

The Temple Mount and Land of Israel Faithful Movement will continue her godly campaign to build the endtime Temple of G-d on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem; and to remove from the Temple Mount -- without delay -- the pagan enemy of G-d and the people of Israel. The Faithful Movement will continue to educate the people of Israel to be a biblical nation in order that it will fulfill the mission that G-d gave them. Everyone in Israel and all over the world is called at this godly and critical time to give his hands, help, and support, and to stand with and participate in the historical campaign of the Temple Mount Faithful Movement.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: Hanukkah 2008

On Hanukkah, December 2008, the Temple Mount Faithful Movement will hold a very special and exciting event. This event will start at the ancient city and tombs of the Maccabees in Modi'in (25 miles from Jerusalem) and continue all the way to Jerusalem and the Temple Mount. We shall bring to mind the heritage of the Maccabees, who liberated the Temple Mount, Jerusalem and all of the Land of Israel from the control of the pagan Greeks. They purified the Temple and renewed the Holy worship to the G-d of Israel. This will be a lesson to the people of Israel and to all the world. More details and date will be shared later. I had expressed the frustration we (the Temple Mount Faithful and thankfully, now, many others) feel when we follow the law, receive the necessary police permits for our legal demonstrations, and even obtain written Supreme Court approval of our actions, only to be denied "freedom of access" to our most holy site, the Temple Mount, and to be harshly treated with contempt for even trying to exercise our democratic rights!

I asked Deputy Attorney General Rakover why the Israeli government was, in effect, encouraging folks to act outside of the law (which they know we've never done, unlike other groups who feel why bother wasting your time trying to reason with corrupt officials), as well as rewarding militant Muslims for their terrorist threats of riots and violence (if Israel were to actually uphold their 1967 law that guarantees - in writing - "freedom of access" to the Temple Mount) and bizarrely punishing law-abiding people by denying them entry to the Temple Mount. Why not remove the threat? Isn't that logical? Isn't that legal?

Professor Nahum Rakover basically said that we're in this situation today because NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE WANT TO EXERCISE THEIR RIGHT to that religious site - the Temple Mount!

Why should Israel change the status quo when they're not under any pressure to do so? It's been said politicians don't see the light until they feel the heat. Shame on us! As I've written in a letter published in the Jerusalem Post, the Temple Mount isn't in our hands, because it's not in our hearts and minds.

I was later unjustly deported for highlighting the plight of the Temple Mount under Nazi-Muslim occupation within an article published throughout Jerusalem and Israel, calling for the restoration of the Temple Mount as the Temple Mount - a House of Prayer for All Peoples - which the High Court of Israel dismissed as dangerous ideas.

Why should Jews continue to pray at the Western Wall, a site designated by the Turks for Jewish worship instead of the Temple Mount, and continue to submit to such a Gentile decree rather than obey the biblical command to ascend the Temple Mount?

Why obey men over God? Isn't that idolatry? Isn't that immoral? Isn't God Israel's King, Israel's only Husband? Who are the nations to dictate what God's wife should do?

Why are Jews gathering at the pitiful Western Wall to mourn the destruction of the Temple? Do something constructive and DEMAND Jewish legal and biblical rights to the Temple Mount.

Thankfully, the Third Temple is coming soon!

Protection of Holy Places Law
June 27, 1967

1. The Holy Places shall be protected from desecration and any other violation and from anything likely to violate the freedom of access of the members of the different religions to the places sacred to them or their feelings with regard to those places.
2. a. Whosoever desecrates or otherwise violates a Holy Place shall be liable to imprisonment for a term of seven years.

The Last Great Day

On Simchat Torah (Festival of the Rejoicing of the Law/Last Great Day) I went up to the Temple Mount with my Bible to pray. Although I do not usually wear a kippa (skull cap), I took one with me.

My first challenge was to pass the guards near the Temple Mount entrance; if they saw me with my Bible they would not let me enter. I silently prayed all the way up to the site where God's Temple stood twice, and will be rebuilt for a third and final time, that I would be able to go in. I got past the guards.

You say Jewish guards prevent Christians and Jews from exercising their religious right to pray on the Temple Mount? That's right! Only Muslims have unlimited access to Judaism's most holy site. Only the Koran is permitted within. The Tanach (Jewish Scripture, known to much of the world as the "Old Testament") and Christian Scriptures (the New Testament) are forbidden. Yet Israel claims to respect the religious rights of all people.

Israel has no law against Christians and Jews praying or reading scriptures on the Temple Mount. However, it does have an unwritten agreement with the Wakf (Muslim religious authorities) prohibiting this. No sign is posted, stating: "Warning! Christian and Jewish prayers are forbidden! Bibles not allowed inside by Muslim religious authorities. Proceed with caution!"

I do not accept that Moslems have the authority to forbid me from reading appropriate Psalms or the New Testament account of Jesus celebrating the Water Libation Ceremony (Psalms 120-134, John 7:37). My question was, where should I read those passages? I ended up between the Dome of the Rock and the Al Aksa mosque, just to the right of the place where Moslems wash their hands and feet. I was on the other side of the raised platform there, if you face the Mosque of Omar.

First, I nervously sat and read. Then I put on my black kippa, stood up and started to read for a few minutes until I became distracted by fears of being attacked by the Moslem guards. I sat down, took off my kippa, and continued to read. Then one of the Wakf guards noticed me and asked what I was reading. I replied, "Yes, it's my book." He took it from me and saw that it was a Bible. He demanded to know if I was a Christian or a Jew. When I told him I was a Christian, he asked me why I was wearing a magen David (Star of David).

I did not feel obligated to explain that it was a gift from my mother and youngest sister, and told him, "Give back my Bible." He ordered, "You have to leave now!" Again I said, "Give back my Bible." When he refused, I demanded its return more loudly. He raised his fist as if to hit me and warned me not to raise my voice. This attracted the attention of some passing tourists, who gathered around us. I told them, "This thief has stolen my Bible!"

The Wakf guard told me to leave again and threatened to hit me. He said he would give me back my Bible outside. Since there was no reason for him to confiscate it in the first place, I told him to return it to me then and there and I would go. At this point he radioed an Israeli policeman, who came running. The Israeli handcuffed my right hand, which I raised and showed to the assembled tourists, saying, "This is Israeli democracy!" I asked the Israeli repeatedly, "What law have I broken?" knowing that I had not broken any law, yet was being treated like a common criminal.

I am shocked that Jewish police in the Jewish State help maintain Moslem domination of the Temple Mount by suppressing Christian and Jewish religious rights there. Is it the Temple Mount or the Mosque Mount?

An Israeli policeman led me away. I told the bewildered tourists, "This is what happens to a Christian or Jew who wants to read the Bible where the holy Temple stood. This is what happens to Christians and Jews who want to pray where our prophets and patriarchs prayed, and where Jesus and his disciples taught." Why the exclusive religious rights for Moslems? And Israel wants to hand over control of Rachel's Tomb, Bethlehem and Joseph's Tomb to Moslem religious authorities?! Are they crazy or what?

In the police station at the Western Wall Plaza, the officers wanted to know who else was with me. They were relieved to find that I was alone. (They should have known I was performing a mitzva [religious commandment]). The police said they arrested me for my own protection. I told them they should have arrested the Wakf guard who threatened me! Why not remove, once and for all, the threat of Moslem violence? Why reward Moslem extremists?

The police laughed in disbelief when I told them I am a Christian and that my Bible includes the New Testament, which they returned to me. A Druze officer said, "But you must respect other religions." He remained silent when I asked, "Where was their respect for mine?" I explained that our Biblical goal is to enable everyone to come and pray on the mountain where God's Temple stood, and in the Temple when it will be rebuilt. It is prophesied to become a "House of Prayer" for all nations.

The police told me I could return to the Temple Mount as a tourist - without my Bible. I said that I do not want to go up there only as a "tourist;" I want to pray there. When they asked me how many times I had been up there, I said "a thousand." They wrote that down in their report. They said I could make a short statement for the record. I said something to this effect: "Is it too much to ask during this 3,000th anniversary of King David's Jerusalem to peacefully read his inspired words on the Temple Mount?"

When I left the police compound, one of the policemen told me I did a good thing. Once outside, I was met by some Jews who saw the incident and congratulated me. I pray that this unfortunate encounter will raise awareness of Israel's religious discrimination against Christians and Jews. The situation must change. It will when enough people cry "Basta!" (Italian for "enough!").

May the day soon come when Christians, Jews and Moslems can say: "My House shall be called a house of prayer for all Peoples." (Isaiah 56:7). The Bible says:

"Moreover, concerning the stranger, who (is) not of Your people Israel, but comes out of a far country for Your Name's sake. For they shall hear of Your great Name, and of your mighty hand, and of Your outstretched arm, and will come and pray toward this house. Hear you in heaven Your dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calls to You for, that all peoples of the earth may know Your Name, to fear you, as (do) Your people Israel, that they may know that Your Name is called upon this house that I have built." (I Kings 8:41-43)

"And the foreigners who join themselves to the Lord to serve Him and to love the name of the Lord, to be His servants - everyone who observes the Sabbath - I will bring them to My holy mountain, and make them joyful in My house of prayer Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon My altar, for My house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples." (Isaiah 56:6-7)

"And it shall come to pass at the end of days, that the mountain of the Lord's house shall be established at the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills, and peoples shall flow to it. And many nations shall go, and say, 'Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord...and He will teach us of His ways, and we will walk in His paths,' for out of Zion shall go forth the Torah, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem." (Micah 4:1-2)

From Toledo to Jerusalem

Why would a blond, "non-Jewish" American want to emmigrate to Israel? What's the connection? Especially when so few Jews in the United States are willing to make the move.

What force would drive someone to travel to Israel 11 times, serve in 8 kibbutzim and even stay there during the Persian Gulf War, complete with gas mask, with his room designated as cheder atoom -- "sealed room" -- that other volunteers had to run to whenever the eerie sirens sounded that another Scud Missile was headed for the Promised Land? Why would such an individual risk arrest, defamation and deportation to participate in legal demonstrations in Jerusalem?

The first time I visited Israel was with the Worldwide Church of God in 1980 to celebrate Sukkot -- the biblical Feast of Tabernacles. (Some Christians understand that Israel's harvest festival foreshadows the peace and prosperity that everyone will soon enjoy under the Messiah's golden rule). But that whirlwind experience only whet my appetite.

I wanted to return for a closer look at Israel than through a tour bus window. That's how I decided to return as a kibbutz volunteer in the fall of 1982. A kibbutz is a collective farm, although increasingly it includes other industries as well. I initially served at Ramat Yohanan near Haifa, in full view of Mt. Carmel, famous for the fiery prophet Elijah's close encounter with pagan Israelites.

You could say I have a God-given love for the Jews and the nation of Israel (Isaiah 62:6-7). That sacred bond has been strengthened over the years by the fact that I've been blessed to have lived all over Israel, getting to know its land and people quite well.

Apart from 5 months at Ramat Yohanan (where I met my "kibbutz mother," Miriam Weiss) I've also stayed at Sdot Yam on the Mediterranean, next to Caesarea, the site of my first ulpan (intensive Hebrew course), and where Israel's heroine, Hannah Senesh, was from - as well as mentioned in Exodus by Leon Uris; Regavim, near Zichron Yaakov, where I continued my Hebrew lessons amid its rolling green hills; Reshafim, near Bet She'an, with Mt. Gilboa practically in our backyard, and Jordan's mountains in lovely view out front; Adamit, on Lebanon's border, high up on a mountain, from where on clear days you can see all the way to Haifa's Mt. Carmel; Shoval, a rose in the Negev desert, just north of Be'er Sheva; Dan, way up in the northernmost part of Israel, in between Syria and Lebanon, next to the majestic snow-covered Mt. Hermon, where I was living when "Operation Desert Storm" blew in; and Ha'On, with its campground and ostrich farm on the eastern shores of the Sea of Galilee, across from Tiberias; and last but not least, my beloved Jerusalem, next to my favorite spot on earth: the Temple Mount.

But why would I leave the beautiful farms and magnificent greenery of Ohio for a Middle Eastern country? (My ancestors sailed to America from England, including John and Priscilla Alden on the Mayflower). Why would I legally change my name from David A. Hoover to David Ben-Ariel? (Hebrew for: David, son of God's Lion - a nickname for Jerusalem/Isaiah 29:1). Yes, why?

1) Because I am a Christian Zionist who believes the rebirth of Israel is nothing short of a miracle, and that all Bible-believers must support this fulfillment of prophecy or deny their faith.

And 2) because I strongly believe what many are now discovering: the Israelite identity of Anglo-Saxon-Celtics and the white peoples of Northwestern Europe. This awareness of our Hebrew roots and biblical responsibilities hastens the process of redemption.

Herbert W. Armstrong was one of the greatest to restore this truth to millions through The United States and Britain in Prophecy, but I'm friends with Yair Davidiy in Israel, founder of Brit Am Israel and author of The Tribes and Ephraim, who represents a growing number of Jews who are again accepting the revelation of their brother, Joseph - head of the northern ten-tribes of the Kingdom of Israel (distinct from the southern Kingdom of Judah).

Due to my Anglo-Saxon-Celtic heritage, as well as descent from the British and Scottish Royal Families, I'm considered of the tribes of Joseph and Judah. (There are Twelve Tribes of Israel). For people like me, Israel is also our ancient Homeland.

I truly felt my return to Zion completes a historic circle in my family's history.Having been to Israel so many times, and written innumerable letters to The Blade (Toledo, Ohio's newspaper), and various articles in support of a Jewish state, I never imagined that one day I would be deported from it!

As reported on the front page of The Jerusalem Post (Jan. 8, 1996), the GSS (Israel's Secret Service) sought my unjust deportation on the trumped-up charges of my alleged involvement in a plot to blow up the Al-Aksa mosque. This travesty of justice occurred during the "witch-hunt" that followed the assassination of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. The Israeli left was exploiting the death of Yitzhak Rabin to squash their legal opposition. Such Stalinist tactics were condemned by former Russian refuseniks and "Prisoners of Zion."

Thankfully, the regime of Shimon Peres was toppled with the election of Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu. Bibi (as Netanyahu's affectionally called) had also been branded as an "enemy of peace" for opposing wholesale surrender to PLO demands. He promised the Israelis "peace with security."

As a Christian member of the Temple Mount Faithful, I'd been privileged to participate in their legal demonstrations during my 10-month stay in Jerusalem awaiting citizenship. Israeli television often showed me with my Jewish friends carrying Israeli flags throughout the Old City. I've also had letters published in the Jerusalem Post, the Traveller and other publications about the burning issue of the Temple Mount.

Presently that most holy site is under a militant Muslim occupation that forcibly forbids Christians or Jews from praying or reading the Bible there, as I testify within A House of Prayer for All Peoples? This despite the fact that both Solomon and Herod's Temple stood there, and Jesus and His disciples taught and prayed there. Israel has a law against such violent religious discrimination, but apparently they're afraid or unwilling to enforce it. Such shameful appeasement rewards the aggressors and punishes the innocent! The Temple Mount Faithful boldly calls for an end to this injustice.

Within Beyond Babylon: Europe's Rise and Fall, I've called for the Israeli government to exercise its Jewish responsibility to build the Temple. I wrote that book in the United States before any of this trouble. The book clearly explains that I'm not calling for any individual to remove the mosques, but rather expecting the GOVERNMENT to fulfill its historic obligations. I mentioned this to the police during my six and an half hours interrogation. Later I was imprisoned in Jerusalem's rotting Russian Compound for three weeks until my heartbreaking deportation.

As my attorney in Israel, Naftali Warzberger, has written, my future is linked with that of the Jews and Israel. That's why I'm confident justice will prevail. Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (D. Ohio) has persistently presented this case of religious discrimination and political persecution before our State Department. Senator Mike DeWine (R. Ohio) has inquired on my behalf to return to Zion and was informed that the Ministry of the Interior "has made the decision not to grant the visa and does not offer any information behind their decision." They've since written Senator DeWine that I will not be "eligible for a visa until 2005!"

Is it a crime to have an abiding love for Israel? To believe what's written in the Law and the Prophets concerning the Temple and our responsibility to construct it? To mourn that it hasn't been done yet? As the Jerusalem Talmud states: "every generation in which the Temple has not been built is as if the Temple were destroyed in it...." Isn't Israel's state emblem a gold menorah in between two gold olive branches?

Must I remain in exile, banished from the Land I love, because my hope, prayer, and dream is for Israel to fulfill what that symbol represents: the Temple and Israel's destiny to become a Light to all nations?
