"Mamma Rochel"

Under the original Oslo agreements, the Oslo architects meant to give away Rachel's Tomb to the Arab enemy. What changed the decree was a meeting by Rabbi Chanan Porat and Rabbi Menachem Porush with Yitzhak Rabin. The loud crying by Rabbi Menachem Porush shouting "Mamme Rochel, Mamme Rochel" ("Mother Rachel, Mother Rachel" in Yiddish) and the convincing arguments of Chanan Porat succeeded in keeping Rachel's Tomb in our hands.

This is one of the many stories that were told to the tens of people who came to Shdema last Friday to hear Rabbi Chanan Porat.

Rabbi Porat spoke about Rachel Imeinu, our mother Rachel, her personality, the incredible power of her crying and of those crying for her. Rachel represents Erets Israel, the longing to the land and our obligation to safeguard it.
Shdema is located some 5 kilometers from Rachel's Tomb. Rachel's struggle is not over yet. All of her sons are not back yet to all parts of the Land of Israel. The struggle continues. The struggle for the Land of Israel in general and for Shdema in particular.
